Today’s the Last Day to Vote in the Chronicle’s Best of Austin 2015 Poll!

boa2015Today’s the deadline for the Austin Chronicle‘s annual Best of Austin poll. Readers and the public are invited to vote for the Austin personalities, businesses, places, etc., that make Austin great.

Those venues, events, media, personalities, etc., that hold special places in the hearts of Tejano fans (and also support Austin’s Tejano music scene), haven’t had much of a presence in this poll in recent years, so it would be great to have a strong turnout this year.

How to vote: go to and fill out the form with your information, along with your favorites in each category. Then click submit at the bottom and you’re done.

Of special note is the Loose Cannon category at the very bottom of the page, where you can write in your own award for consideration. In the past few days, there has been a great deal of support for Rancho Alegre Radio in this category for its Tejano/Conjunto music advocacy efforts.

[In the interest of full disclosure, Rancho Alegre Radio is the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization I co-founded with my partner Baldomero Frank Cuellar back in 2008, so this is kind of a shameless plug. If you want to add to this, I would sincerely appreciate it. Just write in “Tejano/Conjunto Music Advocacy – Rancho Alegre Radio.” If not, make up your own award for someone worthy.]

Regardless of who gets your vote, the point of all this is to encourage Austin’s Tejano fans and community to participate and raise our visibility in Austin media. The deadline is probably midnight tonight, but voting may close a little earlier, so the sooner the better!

Quick points to remember:

  • You only get one vote.
  • Artists will appear on the next round of voting for the Austin Music Awards in early 2016.
  • The winners will be Austin-based people and places, but you can vote even if you don’t live in Austin.

Thanks and happy voting!

I manage all things technical, administrative, and creative at Austin's own Rancho Alegre, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Conjunto music. Our projects include digitizing recordings, interviewing legendary and up-and-coming artists, maintaining and constructing a historical record of Tejano and Conjunto music, connecting artists with professional and business services, and presenting the annual Rancho Alegre Conjunto Festival and various events throughout the year. I am a Professional Member of the Recording Academy.
