MIAMI – Jennifer Lopez paid tribute to Selena Quintanilla-Perez at the 2015 Billboard Latin Music Awards on Thursday night and talked about the slain Tejano star on NBC’s “Today Show” right after the performance.
“She’s just one of those very special types of artists that with her music and her spirit and her joy and her heart, she really touched people,” Lopez told NBC’s Natalie Morales about Selena during a Viva Today segment.
Lopez portrayed the Tejano icon in the 1997 biopic Selena. Some say it was Lopez’s breakout role.
“The impact it had on my life and my career was a great thing,” Lopez said of the movie. “It was a great thing for her to be my mentor and to teach me so much.”
