Texas singer-songwriter Devin Banda is stepping into the country music spotlight with the release of her debut country single, “#1 On The Charts,” a clever, tongue-in-cheek anthem that takes aim at today’s celebrity culture and the sometimes bizarre realities of chasing attention in the entertainment industry.
Known to Tejano fans for her powerful vocals and heartfelt songwriting, Banda is embracing a new musical direction while staying true to her Texas roots. The new single combines traditional country storytelling with a playful sense of humor, offering listeners a refreshing perspective on how controversy often overshadows talent in the age of viral headlines.
Ironically, the song’s inspiration came from a day of relaxation along the Texas Gulf Coast.
While wade fishing in South Padre Island, Banda found herself face-to-face with a shark swimming much closer than expected. After the frightening encounter, she immediately called her mother to share what had happened. Her mother’s lighthearted response—”You were almost #1″—referenced the possibility that a shark attack would have made national headlines.
That humorous exchange sparked the idea for the song, which explores how sensational stories frequently receive more attention than years of hard work and dedication.
Penned by Banda, “#1 On The Charts” was produced by her husband, Lucky Joe, alongside longtime Freddie Records engineer Mariano Herrera. The track blends classic country influences with witty lyrics that poke fun at internet gossip, celebrity scandals, and the endless pursuit of staying relevant in today’s entertainment landscape.
For Banda, the move into country music feels like a natural evolution rather than a departure.

Born in Brownwood, Texas, raised in the Buda and Kyle communities, and now living in South Texas, she has built her career by celebrating both her Texas upbringing and her Mexican-American heritage. Those influences continue to shape her music, even as she explores a new genre.
Banda first earned statewide recognition in 2012 when she finished as runner-up on Tejano Idol, launching a career that has included award nominations, radio success, and a loyal fan following.
Her 2017 debut album, Unstoppable, received a Tejano Music Awards nomination for Best New Female Artist and produced several radio favorites, including “Un Poquito Mas,” a collaboration connected to the production team behind Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull.
After taking a four-year hiatus from recording, Banda returned with the six-song EP Vamos a Brindar, featuring standout tracks such as “Me Olvidaré de Ti.” More recently, her music has increasingly reflected the crossover influences of both Tejano and country, making “#1 On The Charts” a fitting next chapter in her artistic journey.
In September 2023, Banda married fellow Tejano artist and Latin Grammy nominee Lucky Joe, who has become one of her closest creative collaborators through songwriting and production.
With its catchy melody, relatable humor, and unmistakable Texas personality, “#1 On The Charts” serves as both an entertaining country debut and a playful reminder that while drama may dominate the headlines, authentic songwriting still has the power to leave a lasting impression.
