As “The Capital of Tejano Music” gears up for Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals tonight at the Frost Bank Center, Los Desperadoz member Mike Villarreal is confidently backing his hometown team to bring another championship banner to San Antonio.
During an appearance on The Bo Corona Show on Wednesday (June 3), Villarreal shared his prediction for the highly anticipated NBA Finals matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks.

“I’m not gonna go with the final score, but I am gonna go with, I am predicting a win, and I’m predicting San Antonio Spurs are gonna win in game six. That’s my prediction,” Villarreal said.
The prediction comes as excitement reaches a fever pitch across South Texas. The Spurs are chasing their sixth NBA Championship in franchise history in what the organization and fans have dubbed the “Race for Seis.”
The 2026 NBA Finals marks a championship rematch 27 years in the making. The last time the Spurs and Knicks met on basketball’s biggest stage was in 1999, when San Antonio captured its first NBA title.

This year’s Spurs squad, led by defensive superstar Victor Wembanyama, earned the Western Conference crown as the No. 2 seed after surviving a hard-fought seven-game series against the Oklahoma City Thunder. On the Eastern Conference side, Jalen Brunson guided the No. 3 seed New York Knicks to their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999, capping off a dominant playoff run with a sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Mike Villarreal is the accordion player, vocalist, and co-founder of the award-winning San Antonio-based Tejano and Conjunto band, Los Desperadoz. Fronting the iconic group alongside his brothers Lee and PJ, Mike represents the third generation of a highly respected musical family legacy in Texas that dates back to the 1950s
Villarreal also addressed a social media image making the rounds online that used artificial intelligence to place members of Los Desperadoz in Spurs jerseys as they showed support for their hometown team. The image quickly caught the attention of fans who embraced the crossover between San Antonio’s beloved basketball franchise and one of the city’s longtime Tejano acts.
While discussing the Finals, Villarreal took a moment to invite fans to catch Los Desperadoz live this weekend. The band will perform a free show alongside Los Garcia Bros. on Friday, June 6, at Texas Rodeo Saloon in Katy, Texas.
With Game 1 set for tonight in San Antonio, Spurs fans across the city are dreaming of another championship celebration. If Villarreal’s prediction comes true, the Silver and Black will be raising the Larry O’Brien Trophy on their home floor in six games and adding another chapter to the franchise’s storied legacy.
For now, the Race for Seis officially begins.
