Just hours before taking the stage in Katy, Texas, Art Campos of Conjunto Cats got candid about a life-changing tragedy and the overwhelming support that followed during an appearance on The Bo Corona Show on Friday, April 10.
Campos revealed that on February 11, 2026, his family’s home suffered a devastating fire caused by an electrical malfunction, resulting in what he described as a “75% loss” of the residence.
“Man, nobody expects their house to burn down,” Campos said. “At the end of it, it was considered a 75% loss on the whole house.”
In a twist of fate, Campos wasn’t home when the fire started. Instead, he had just made a major investment in the band’s future.
“About 30 minutes prior to the fire, I was purchasing a brand new van for the group,” he shared. “I got home, backed it up to the trailer, and we were admiring it… and about an hour and a half later, my house was on fire.”
Campos described the terrifying moment his daughter alerted him that something was wrong inside the house. Soon after, he noticed extreme heat coming from the walls and electrical breaker before smoke began pouring out.
Despite the destruction, Campos expressed gratitude that his family and their essential musical equipment—including bajos, accordions, and bass guitars—were safely recovered.
“Thank God we’re all safe. Nobody’s hurt,” he said. “It could have been a lot worse.”
In the aftermath, the Conjunto community and fans rallied around Campos and his family, organizing a fundraiser that left him deeply moved.
“I didn’t expect anything from anybody,” he admitted. “That’s just how I was raised… you figure things out on your own. But man, I was surprised. I want to thank all the groups that performed and all the people who donated. My family and I really appreciate it.”
Campos also provided an update on the rebuilding process, noting that progress is underway, albeit slowly.
“They just told us the roof has been completed,” he said. “We’re starting from the top and working our way down. It’s moving a little slow, but it’s going.”
Through it all, Campos has maintained a positive outlook, leaning on faith and resilience.
“You have to take a negative and turn it into a positive,” he said. “We’re not where we want to be yet, but we’re moving.”

That same determination carries into Conjunto Cats’ performances, which Campos promises will deliver their signature high-energy experience.
Based in Seguin, Texas, the Conjunto Cats have built a reputation for keeping traditional conjunto and música norteña alive. Led by Art Campos, the family-centered group features his sons and close relatives, delivering energetic performances driven by accordion, bajo sexto, and drums. Known for their original polkas and classic covers, the band has long been a staple at dances, festivals, and community events across Texas.
Fans in the Houston and Katy area can catch Conjunto Cats live tonight, April 10, at Texas Rodeo Saloon. The free 21+ show will also feature opening act Los Arcos Hermanos Peña.
“We expect to see everybody there,” Campos said. “It’s going to be a full night of bajo sexto, accordion, and high-energy conjunto music all night long.”
Even in the face of hardship, Art Campos and Conjunto Cats continue to push forward—bringing their music, passion, and perseverance to the stage.
