A new opportunity is now available for young musicians helping carry forward the rich traditions of Tejano and Conjunto music. The Tejano NextGen Fund, Inc. has officially opened applications for its inaugural scholarship, aimed at supporting the next generation of artists rooted in the culture.
The 2026 Tejano NextGen Fund Scholarship will award one $1,000 scholarship to a graduating Texas high school senior who demonstrates active involvement in Tejano or Conjunto music. Whether through school programs or independent community participation, students across the state are encouraged to apply.
The initiative is part of a broader mission by the Texas-based nonprofit to invest in student musicians and preserve the cultural legacy of La Onda Tejana.
“There’s something powerful about seeing the next generation step into this music with pride, dedication, and heart,” the organization shared in its announcement. “Our goal is simple: support the students who are helping carry this tradition forward.”
Founded by Tejano Music Awards-winning artist Angelica Alcoser and Latin Grammy–winning musician Arthur “Tweet” Juarez Jr., the Tejano NextGen Fund is built on a foundation of community, education, and long-term cultural preservation. Musician and community advocate James Garcia also serves on the board, bringing industry experience and outreach to the effort.
“We keep talking about it as an industry, but action is needed,” Alcoser told Tejano Nation Radio. “Tejano and Conjunto music carry more than rhythm — our genre carries history, identity, and community. We created this fund to ensure that legacy continues.”
Juarez emphasized the importance of education alongside musical talent.
“There’s power in knowledge,” he said. “A lot of times we don’t have programs like this for musicians. This is about giving these kids an opportunity — not just in music, but in their personal lives through education.”
