Just days after the family of Tejano music legend Selena Quintanilla-Pérez filed a lawsuit against global fast-fashion retailer SHEIN, clothing and merchandise featuring the late singer’s image appear to have been removed from the company’s e-commerce platform.
A search of the site now returns a message stating “No results found for ‘selena,’” signaling that the listings have been taken down amid the growing legal dispute.
The lawsuit was filed Wednesday (March 11) in a California U.S. District Court by Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, who manages the singer’s estate and runs Q Productions. According to the complaint, the retailer allegedly sold clothing and merchandise featuring Selena’s name, image, and likeness without authorization from the family or their company, which holds the rights to her likeness and intellectual property.
Quintanilla’s legal team claims the company had already been warned months earlier. Attorneys state that a cease-and-desist letter was sent to SHEIN in August 2025 demanding the retailer stop selling the items. However, the lawsuit alleges the company continued to distribute the merchandise despite the warning.

“To date, Defendants continue to willfully and unlawfully exploit Plaintiffs’ Selena marks and rights of publicity in commerce against the express demands by Plaintiffs to cease and desist such use,” the attorneys stated in the filing.
The lawsuit accuses the retailer of multiple violations, including trademark infringement, unfair competition, and violations of publicity rights tied to Selena’s image and brand.
A spokesperson for SHEIN told TMZ that the products in question were being sold through the company’s marketplace by third-party sellers.
“When we were made aware that the products in question were being sold on SHEIN Marketplace by third-party sellers, we immediately removed the listings from our platform and launched an investigation,” the spokesperson said.
The legal dispute comes as the family continues to closely protect the legacy of Selena, who remains one of the most influential Latin artists in history. Born in Texas, the singer rose to international stardom in the early 1990s with a string of hits before her tragic death in 1995 at just 23 years old.
For decades, her father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., managed her estate and safeguarded her legacy until his passing last December at the age of 86.
More than three decades after her death, Selena’s music, fashion, and cultural influence continue to inspire new generations of fans worldwide. The Quintanilla family has consistently taken action against companies they believe are using Selena’s image without proper authorization.
The case also highlights a growing issue facing celebrity estates in the digital era, as online retailers and third-party marketplaces increasingly come under scrutiny for selling unlicensed merchandise.
As of now, SHEIN has not issued a formal public response to the lawsuit beyond acknowledging the removal of the listings.
For the Quintanilla family, the message remains clear: protecting Selena’s name and legacy is not just business — it’s personal.
