Singer-songwriter Alicia C is stepping into 2026 with one of the most heartfelt releases of her career. The artist has unveiled her new international single “Raíces Libres,” a deeply emotional ballad that honors identity, ancestral memory, and the unbreakable strength of our communities.
Produced by Tejano legend Shelly Lares under Shellshock Records 3, the song blends poetic lyricism with Alicia C’s soulful delivery, creating an anthem that speaks to generations. Raíces Libres was born, as the artist describes, “among sacred mountains, rivers, dance and tradition,” and serves as a reminder of the teachings of grandparents, the fight for dignity, and the truth that no border can define the human spirit.
“With a message of unity, resilience, and love, this ballad uplifts the voices of those who proudly walk their roots and move forward without fear,” Alicia C shared in announcing the release. “We are people, we are song. Earth and flower, strength and freedom.”
The single arrives with profound emotional weight following recent events that have shaken Latino communities nationwide. In a candid Instagram message, Alicia C reflected on how the song has taken on new meaning:
“I’ve always believed that our roots aren’t just where we come from—they’re how we survive. I’m finally releasing my new single, ‘Raíces Libres.’ It’s a song for our people and our resilience, for the strength we carry across every river, and for the spirit that no border can define.”
She continued by addressing the tragic death of Minneapolis musician and mother Renee Nicole Good, saying the loss underscores the “triste temor” — the sad fear — referenced in her lyrics.
“This is why we cannot stay silent,” Alicia C said. “I’ll see you Saturday to sing for Renee, for our families, and for our freedom. Todos somos hijos libres.”
Fans will get their first opportunity to hear Raíces Libres performed live on Saturday, January 17, at HRC San Antonio’s “We Are Revelation” event, part of the city’s annual DreamWeek celebration. The performance, scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Geekdom Event Centre, will highlight liberation through art and the reclaiming of joy as resistance.
With Shelly Lares’ signature production and Alicia C’s heartfelt storytelling, Raíces Libres stands as more than a song—it is a declaration. A reminder that culture survives, love resists, and roots remain free.
The single is now available now on all digital platforms.
