The legacy of the Queen of Cumbia continues to shine as Netflix announces the global premiere of Selena y Los Dinos, a powerful new documentary celebrating Selena Quintanilla-Perez and her family band. The film, which previously premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, will begin streaming on November 17 and promises to give fans an unprecedented look into the life and journey of the beloved Mexican-American icon.
Directed by Isabel Castro (Mija, Darlin), Selena y Los Dinos features never-before-seen footage from the Quintanilla family’s personal archives, chronicling the band’s rise from performing at small local quinceañeras to selling out stadiums around the world. The film also includes intimate new interviews and behind-the-scenes moments that reveal the heart, drive, and unity that propelled Selena and her family to stardom.
“As a filmmaker, I wanted to honor her extraordinary rise and enduring legacy, while also giving a window into her life behind the stage,” said Castro. “Through personal archive and intimate interviews with her family, the film reveals new dimensions of her journey that have never been seen before. I am deeply grateful to her family for their trust and support throughout this journey, and I can’t wait for a global audience to experience the magic, heart, and community that Selena gave to all of us.”
The film earned critical acclaim at Sundance, where it received the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Archival Storytelling. Executive produced by Michele Anthony, Suzette Quintanilla, and A.B. Quintanilla III, the documentary represents a deeply personal project for the Quintanilla family. Suzette, who also played drums in the band, expressed her excitement for the release:
“We are so excited to finally share that our documentary Selena y Los Dinos is coming to Netflix! Grateful to have a platform that helps bring Selena’s story to fans around the world.”
Produced by Julie Goldman, Christopher Clements, J. Daniel Torres, David Blackman, and Simran Singh, Selena y Los Dinos captures the cultural impact, musical brilliance, and enduring love that continues to define Selena’s story three decades after her passing.
Selena y Los Dinos premieres November 17 on Netflix, giving fans across the globe an emotional, intimate, and inspiring new look at the life and legacy of Tejano music’s brightest star.
