Tejano music legend Pio Treviño, best known as the “Magic Man,” is recovering after suffering a heart attack during a private event performance on September 13.
Treviño revealed the news to fans on Wednesday (Sept. 17) through social media video recorded from his hospital bed. “Hello to all my family, friends, and fans. I am here at the hospital. I had a heart attack on Saturday night while I was performing and I feel much better,” Treviño shared. “They went ahead and put a couple of stents in my heart and hopefully everything will be okay. I can’t wait to get back on stage. God bless you and keep up your prayers and hope to see you very soon. Love you.”
The singer has been a cornerstone of Tejano music for over five decades. He began his career in the early ’70s as a vocalist for Los Exitos and Sangre Chicana before drawing national attention as the lead singer for La Movida, a group that quickly rose to success. Treviño became the voice and composer behind many of the band’s signature songs before forming his own group, Majic.
In 1988, Treviño earned a Grammy nomination for Quiero Verte Otra Vez in the category of Best Mexican-American Performance. His most recent release, Simplemente Mejor (2024), continued to showcase his timeless style and enduring passion for Tejano music.
