Latin Grammy Award winner Roger Velasquez has teamed up with Nigerian-born, Dallas-based Afrobeat artist Baba Kuboye, nephew of African music icon Fela Kuti, for the powerful new single “Colomentality.” The track appears as part of Kuboye’s newly released album Afroverse, with “Colomentality” landing as track three.
Produced by Fliptyce, the collaboration fuses Afrobeat and Latin soul, earning praise for the uplifting energy created by blending the two genres. Velasquez co-wrote the track alongside Kuboye, and the pair connected deeply on themes of faith, gratitude, and positivity.
“Baba Kuboye is an incredibly talented artist. His songs are filled with positivity and love for life,” said Velasquez, who won a Latin Grammy for Best Tejano Album in 2018. “I was honored that Baba asked me to collaborate with him on Colomentality. We connected on the theme of faith and gratitude for all the blessings we have received from the creator. Colomentality is a message of gratefulness, joy of life and love of music.”
Velasquez went on to praise Kuboye and Fliptyce for the production on the track, encouraging fans of good music everywhere to give the song a listen and add it to their playlists. With its infectious rhythms and heartfelt message, Colomentality highlights the global power of music to connect cultures and celebrate life.
