Rudy Treviño To Be Inducted Into Texas Radio Hall of Fame Class of 2025

HOUSTON, TX — The Texas Radio Hall of Fame (TRHOF) has officially revealed its 2025 list of twenty inductees, and longtime Tejano radio favorite Rudy Treviño is among the celebrated honorees. Treviño, the acclaimed producer and host of Tejano Gold Countdown, will be inducted during the TRHOF’s Annual Induction Ceremony on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Texas Broadcast Museum in Kilgore, Texas.

“This has been an incredible honor bestowed upon me, more so to be recognized by my peers is the ultimate recognition,” Treviño tells Tejano Nation. “But I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that I could have never done it without the support of my family, friends and mentors.”

Rudy Treviño’s passion for broadcasting began in 1965 when, at just 10 years old, his grandmother gave him a small transistor radio — a gift that sparked a lifelong love for radio. By 13, a visit to a local station cemented his dream, leading to his first job at KIBL 1490 AM in Beeville and later KAML 990, serving both country and Spanish-language listeners.

After graduating high school, Treviño served in the Navy as a journalist with American Forces Radio, earned a degree from George Washington University, and returned to radio, working at KTSA/KTFM in San Antonio alongside future Hall of Famers. His bilingual talents opened doors in both English and Spanish markets, including KCCT in Corpus Christi and eventually a role with ABC/Disney as a radio and TV anchor.

In 1996, Treviño launched Tejano Gold Countdown, which has since grown into a syndicated powerhouse airing on more than 100 stations across the U.S. and Mexico. Recognized by Billboard, People Magazine, and the Texas Legislature as the state’s “Official Tejano Music Countdown,” the program remains a cornerstone of Tejano music culture. A two-time Emmy-winning journalist, Treviño has spent over four decades entertaining and informing audiences — a legacy now cemented in the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.

The TRHOF’s Class of 2025 was chosen from over 160 nominations, narrowed to 50 finalists by the Internal Review Committee, with voting members selecting the final twenty. The organization also announced five Lone Star Legacy inductees, including Alberto Alegre Calvo, a prominent Tejano broadcaster for 43 years in El Paso, Houston, and San Antonio. Known for championing artists like La Mafia, Emilio Navaira, and Selena, Calvo won the prestigious Marconi Radio Award for “Spanish Format Personality of the Year” and hosted the Tejano Music Awards twice before his passing in 2018.

Treviño joins an esteemed group of Tejano broadcasters already enshrined in the TRHOF, including Raoul Cortez, Manuel Davila, Bobby Lopez, Henry “Pepsi” Peña, and Rudy Rocha.
