Freddie Records is turning up the anticipation with a first look at the cover art for the upcoming single “Atormentando” from David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales. The legendary label shared the image on social media Monday (July 28), writing, “Freddie Records is proud to share this sneak peek of the cover art for ‘Atormentando’, the highly anticipated new single from ‘The Godfather of Tejano,’ David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales! We can’t wait for you to hear it! Stay tuned for more details coming soon!”
This exciting reveal marks a new era for the Tejano icons, who officially joined the Freddie Records roster last month. With a career spanning over 45 years, 31 albums, and honors including a Grammy and two Latin Grammys, David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales continue to be one of the genre’s most enduring and beloved acts.
Garza, whose signature accordion style has influenced generations, reflected on the journey that started in the small town of Poteet, Texas. “We started playing weddings and parties in and around Poteet back in the late ’60s as David Lee Garza y Su Conjunto,” he recalled. “By 1978, we added a saxophone and electric guitar and recorded our first album under the name David Lee Garza y Los Musicales. I’ve been leading this band now for 45 years, and we’re still going strong.”
Joining the Freddie Records family has been a long-held dream for Garza. “For years I would see all these great artists recording for Freddie, and I said, ‘One day, we will be part of the Freddie Records family.’ That day is finally here.”
Freddie Martinez, Jr., Co-President of Operations and Artist Relations at Freddie Records, called the signing a major milestone. “We’re thrilled to welcome the legendary David Lee Garza y Los Musicales to the label. They are without a doubt one of the greatest Tejano groups of all time. Couple that with the accordion virtuosity of David Lee Garza and their sound is undeniable. There’s no one else that sounds like DLG y Los Musicales.”
The band is currently hard at work on their debut release with Freddie Records, with a full album expected later this summer. A single and music video are also on the way.
“We want to keep making people dance,” Garza said. “This new production with Freddie Records feels special, and I believe fans old and new are going to hear that.”
