Four of Tejano music’s fiercest rising stars are taking TikTok by storm with their spin on the viral Nicki Minaj pose challenge, and they’re doing it in full glam, high heels, and true Chingona energy.
The trend — revived from Minaj’s 2013 “High School” music video where she elegantly posed poolside, one leg over the other in a pair of heels — has recently resurfaced on TikTok, morphing into a jaw-dropping feat of strength, balance, and style. Fans and influencers have been upping the ante, performing the pose on everything from gym equipment to narrow ledges — and now, Tejano stars are getting in on the action.
Savannah V, a Tejano Music Awards winner and entrepreneur, didn’t just attempt the challenge — she owned it. Balancing on one leg atop an esthetician chair at her San Antonio beauty office, Savvy Injectables, she held a drink in hand and dropped some wisdom in her caption: “We are strong here. We don’t crack here. When a door closes, we don’t touch…we knock it down! We acted as if it never closed. We are cool. Full Chingona Status, baby.”
Jenny B, who burst onto the scene with her 2024 debut album Mujer Sensual, delivered her pose with a signature flair, donning silver high-heeled boots and striking the challenge atop a classroom desk. Her caption? “Sit down, take notes. Class is in session. Tejana style.”
Hailyn Bella, making her return to Tejano music after a four-year break, gave fans a candid look into the struggle behind the scenes. Attempting the one-heel balance under the sweltering Texas sun, she quipped: “This Nicki Minaj challenge in heels?! Yeah, it’s way harder than it looks especially in this Texas heat.” Still, the Laredo native gave it her best shot — and earned the applause of her followers for keeping it real.
Amanda Solis, who released her debut album The Space Vaquera late last year, took things to the next level — literally — by posing in the iconic challenge at the Jean Dry Lake Beds outside of Las Vegas. Striking the pose in 115-degree heat and miles from water, she joked, “I won. Almost died for the Barbz in the middle of nowhere.”
The challenge has proven not only that TikTok can bring back a trend over a decade old, but also that the new generation of Tejano artists have what it takes — strength, style, and stamina — to make it their own. From classrooms to deserts, office chairs to blistering blacktops, these fierce Tejanas are redefining what it means to strike a pose.
