Corpus Christi, TX — Tejano music is experiencing a vibrant resurgence as Freddie Records’ M Music & Entertainment Group announces the signing of Mike Gonzalez and The Iconiczz. This dynamic group is fronted by Mike Gonzalez, son of the legendary Tejano artist and six-time Latin Grammy-winning icon Jimmy Gonzalez.
Mike Gonzalez’s journey through music is steeped in tradition, yet driven by a passion to honor and expand his father’s musical legacy. Beginning his musical career in 6th grade, Mike honed his skills performing with his father’s band for 18 years, touring extensively and recording albums that racked up Latin Grammy Awards and nominations for Best Tejano Album. After the untimely passing of Jimmy G in 2018, Mike founded The Iconiczz with a mission to bring a fresh, modern take to the iconic “Jimmy G sound.”
“My hope is to produce and release an amazing album just like Jimmy G would do,“ Mike said in a press release. “I’ve been waiting to return to Freddie Records — the same studio where my father and I created so many unforgettable hits. Now, I’m here to continue what we started and build something lasting with The Iconiczz. The legacy continues.”
Freddie Martinez, Jr., President of Operations and Artist Relations at Freddie Records, emphasized the group’s significance to the label’s roster: “Mike is an extremely talented musician who knows the music of Jimmy G better than anyone. He’s assembled a solid group of musicians who all share the same passion and goal, which is to honor Jimmy and create great timeless music.”
The Iconiczz are currently in pre-production on their debut album, which promises to capture the essence of Jimmy G’s influence while adding a contemporary twist. The project will feature all-new music, alongside a few surprises that fans will recognize. A first single and video are set to drop in late summer, with the full album expected in the fall.
With the spirit of Tejano legends guiding them, Mike Gonzalez and The Iconiczz are poised to make their mark on the genre’s future. Their sights are set on nothing less than a Latin Grammy — a testament to their commitment to authenticity, excellence, and generational pride.
