HARLINGEN, TX — Acclaimed multi-genre vocalist Hilda Lamas has released her latest single—a heartfelt cumbia tribute to her late aunt, legendary Mexican singer Dulce La Cantante—offering fans a vibrant reimagining of the classic “Tu Muñeca.” Out today on all major streaming platforms, the single marks the first release from a full-length tribute project expected later this year.
Produced by Rick Garcia, the industry veteran known for crafting hits like Lisa Lopez’s “Si Quieres Verme Llorar,” and arranged by cumbia maestro Wiwis Vargas, this powerful rendition breathes new life into the beloved song while preserving its emotional essence.
“This song was one of my tía’s most iconic songs,” Lamas shares. “Recording it in a cumbia style is my way of honoring and continuing her legacy while expressing it through my own musical flavoring.”

Dulce emerged in the 1970s as the lead singer of the group Toby y Sus Amigos before launching a celebrated solo career in Mexico City, with the backing of iconic singer José José. She rose to fame with powerful ballads and pop songs throughout the 1980s, including signature hits like “Tu Muñeca.” Beyond music, Dulce appeared in telenovelas, TV shows and reality series. She continued performing well into the 2000s, releasing albums and joining the Grandiosas tour, before passing away on December 25, 2024, following complications from lung cancer at age 69.
Hilda Lamas, who was inducted into the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame in January 2025, has been recognized as one of Tejano’s most passionate voices. She’s received multiple accolades from the Country Music Association of Texas and earned a nomination for Best New Female Artist at the 2023 Tejano Music Awards. With “Tu Muñeca,” Lamas connects her family’s musical legacy to her own unique artistry, solidifying her role in the ever-evolving Tejano landscape.
“Tu Muñeca” is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube. Stay tuned for more releases from this heartfelt tribute project celebrating the legacy of Dulce La Cantante.
