After a four-year hiatus marked by personal loss and profound growth, Hailyn Bella is back with “El Tú Soy Yo,” the third of three singles she’s released since stepping back into the spotlight. The bilingual track is now available on all digital streaming platforms, marking a defining chapter in her journey as an artist.
Bella’s break from music followed the passing of her beloved father, Salvador Bella, who died from complications of COVID-19 in August 2021. “Everybody’s grieving process is different,” Hailyn told Tejano Nation. “I wrote a letter to my dad and said, ‘I’m ready now. I can do this.’ That’s when everything just opened up—like floodgates.”
Teaming Up With The Klubjumpers
Determined to make her musical dreams a reality, Bella has partnered with powerhouse production duo The Klubjumpers—brothers Sam Michaels and Dan Mathews, whose San Antonio-based studio has churned out more than 80 Billboard charting songs and earned Gold and Platinum records. “This is what I always dreamed about,” Bella said. “Being an artist full-time, with the right team behind me—it’s what I’ve always wanted.”
Roots That Run Deep
Proud of her South Texas heritage, Hailyn is embracing both her Laredo upbringing (956) and her San Antonio growth (210). “I’m excited to represent 956 and 210,” she said. “I’m from a small town, and if I can do it, you can too.” After moving to San Antonio at 17 for college, she blossomed into a multifaceted business owner. Now, she’s come full circle—back in Laredo and ready to share her art with the world.
Building Herself Back Up
The inspiration for “El Tú Soy Yo” came from Bella’s experience as a general contractor, renovating her first fix-and-flip property. She took on the challenge just before the one-year anniversary of her father’s passing. “Everyone told me it was too big a project, that it should be knocked down and rebuilt,” she shared. “But I buried myself in that work, and I learned so much about who I am as a woman.”
The song mirrors that journey of transformation. “I really did feel like I was that old broken-down house,” she said. “But just like the house was beautifully remodeled under my direction, I rebuilt myself. I realized how much I had grown—and that was so empowering.”
A Genre of Her Own: MexCo Pop
“‘El Tú Soy Yo’ is extra special because it’s my first MexCo Pop song,” Bella revealed. “MexCo Pop is my own blend of Mexican and Country. It starts with a cumbia, speeds up into a Country Pop feel, and then transitions back to cumbia at the end.” The song also features lush three-part harmonies that Bella recorded herself, thanks to the skillful mixing of her vocal engineer, Liz. “It’s a perfect representation of who I am—South Texas vibes with a global reach,” she added.
A Plot Twist of Self-Love
While many might expect the song to be about a romantic partner, Bella offers a twist: “I was falling in love with myself at the same time the house was being rebuilt,” she explained. “At the end of the day, I’m all I’ve got—and that’s enough. I’m proud of my accomplishments and how I clawed my way out of some very dark places.”
Looking Ahead: A Full Album This Fall
Bella’s musical journey doesn’t stop here. She’s planning to release a full album on October 10, featuring collaborations with other talented artists. “This album is going to be a crossover blend—paying tribute to my Tejano roots while exploring new sounds,” she said. “Don’t put me in a box. I can do Tejano, pop, English, Latin—anything. My goal is to make music that inspires people to believe in themselves and keep going, no matter what.”
