Beatriz Gonzalez, the powerhouse singer-songwriter from the Rio Grande Valley, has just released her highly anticipated new single, “Qué Lástima,” along with its official music video — giving fans an exclusive glimpse into her upcoming EP, Sanando el Cora.
In an interview with Tejano Nation Radio host Romeo, Beatriz shared her excitement about the release:
“It’s been in the works for a while, actually, since last year. This song is going to be part of an EP that I have, that I’ve been working on Norteño Tejano style. So the song is already out, the EP is five songs long, and it’s going to be called Sanando el Cora. That’s the first time I’m even sharing that info — exclusive! I wrote it myself at the end of last year, and I’ve been working with some really great musicians.”
For “Qué Lástima,” Beatriz teamed up with musician Salomón Ramos for arrangements along with accordion and bajo sexto, her brother Francisco Gonzalez on bass, and JJ Mendoza — her producer at Palabra Records — for mixing and mastering.
The music video captures the raw emotion of the song in a simple, authentic setting at Koko’s Cafe Uptown in McAllen. Beatriz explained how the shoot came together spontaneously:
“It was super fast. I wanted to keep it simple and focus on the feeling. Elena Zarate, my friend and fellow member of Mariachi Azucenas, helped me with the harmonies. I was like, ‘You know what, let’s do this. My friends got me, even in these sad times.’ We filmed it at Koko’s, which is owned by Juanita’s family — she runs the mariachi group I’m part of. We got there early, around 10, and finished in about two hours. We even took some shots and had some drinks. That’s real — you gotta get the vibe.”
