After nearly a decade of anticipation, Los Hermanos Peña are set to make their triumphant return to the Tejano music scene with the release of their highly anticipated album La Nueva Etapa, coming December 30, 2024. This marks a pivotal moment for the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame family band, who have long been icons in the genre, shaping the sound and style of Tejano music for generations.
The release of La Nueva Etapa follows the success of their award-winning PBS documentary, The West Texas Boys, which chronicled the rich history and legacy of the Peña family both as musicians and as a family unit. With their new album, Los Hermanos Peña aim to reintroduce themselves to their loyal fanbase, while also reaching out to new listeners with a revitalized sound and fresh energy.
This album is not only a musical milestone, but also a significant shift in the band’s direction. La Nueva Etapa will be the first album released under the Los Hermanos Peña name, after a split with their previous band, Los Arcos, last year. While brother Jerry remains with Los Arcos, Luis, Gilbert, Fide, and Oscar embarked on a new creative journey together, bringing their distinct vision to this project.
The album features a mix of original compositions primarily penned by the youngest Peña brothers, Fide and Larry Peña. The brothers’ songwriting is complemented by contributions from a variety of rising stars within the Tejano and regional music scenes, ensuring that La Nueva Etapa delivers a modern, yet authentic, Tejano sound.
One of the most exciting aspects of the album is the collaboration with two renowned artists. Winder, a Mexican pop sensation known for his dynamic vocal style, joins the Peña brothers on a standout track that promises to be a fan favorite. Additionally, Mike Aguilar, formerly of Grupo Ondo and now leading Mike Aguilar and The Coupes, returns to Tejano music with a special feature on the album. Aguilar’s contribution will bring a new dimension to the project, blending Tejano tradition with fresh influences that speak to the evolving sound of the genre.
Fide Peña explains, “This album is more than just a collection of random songs. It’s a celebration of where we’ve been and where we’re going. It’s a new chapter, a new etapa, for Los Hermanos Peña.”
As La Nueva Etapa prepares for its December 30 release, fans can look forward to a fresh, heartfelt sound that bridges the gap between generations while remaining deeply rooted in Tejano music’s rich traditions. The Peña brothers will close out 2024 with a highly anticipated album release party at Casa Nueva in Lubbock, Texas, which will also serve as a New Year’s Eve Dance for the community.
Mark your calendars for December 30, 2024, and get ready to experience the next stage in the remarkable journey of Los Hermanos Peña.
