Music Legends Intocable Receive Three Distinct Honors in Texas

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Intocable, the legendary Música Mexicana band, received three prestigious honors in Texas before their concert at Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio on Wednesday night (Nov. 27). The band was awarded an official proclamation from the Texas Governor’s Office, each band member was presented with the Texas Flag by the Texas House of Representatives, and they were named Emissary of the Muses by the city of San Antonio.

In a heartfelt speech, frontman Ricky Muñoz reflected on the significance of being Tejano. “Being Tejano represents this obvious responsibility for us, because we represent the Tejano culture and the families that came here to Texas from Mexico. We are representing two cultures, and the responsibility is twofold, of which we are proud. I am personally proud to represent Texas everywhere we go, as it is where we were born,” he shared. “Texas is who we are, and we take great pride in that.”

Muñoz also spoke about the influence of Texas in the band’s music over the past 30 years. “The music culture we grew up with—conjunto from Texas, Norteño from northern Mexico, country music, rock—it’s all a big cultural mix that’s shaped who we are. Every night on stage, we get to play alongside our musical heroes and relive the dreams we had as kids.”

The official proclamation from Governor Greg Abbott celebrated the band’s milestone, saying, “This is presented to Intocable on the occasion of the band’s 30th anniversary. Since 1994, Texans have gathered in throngs to witness the musical magic that earned you acclaim throughout the state and beyond. Intocable blends rock, pop, polka, cumbia, and folk music, providing the real-life soundtrack for many fond memories. Your music is a testament to your talent and dedication. Your contributions to Tejano music reflect Texas’s rich tradition of artistic achievement, and I am proud to call you fellow Texans.”

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg also honored the band with the title of Emissary of the Muses, a distinction given to only the most prominent figures in the arts. “San Antonio is the Conjunto and Tejano capital of the universe. It’s a great honor to bestow the title of Emissary of the Muses upon Intocable, recognizing your profound impact on the music world. As Emissary, you are now ambassadors of our city’s culture and artistic legacy,” Nirenberg said.

For Intocable, this recognition marks just another chapter in their extraordinary journey. Over the last three decades, the GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY-winning band has shaped Latin music with its unique fusion of Tejano/Norteño sounds and influences from rock, pop, cumbia, and folk. Their 30th anniversary is commemorated with their latest album, Modus Operandi, which was nominated for Best Norteño Album at the Latin GRAMMYs. Their ongoing 30th Anniversary Tour, featuring both their classic hits and new songs like “Mi Castigo,” has captivated fans in cities like Los Angeles, Houston, and Phoenix.

With over 55 million albums sold, 2 billion YouTube views, and 69 Billboard chart entries, Intocable’s impact on Latin music is undeniable. Their musical legacy continues to inspire fans and artists alike, and the band remains one of the most influential groups in the world today.
