Rigo Navaira, the son of Tejano legend Raulito Navaira and nephew of the late Tejano icon Emilio Navaira, is set to release his highly anticipated solo debut EP, “Rodrigo,” later this month in August. Known for his work on the solo album with his sister Destiny Navaira, which earned him a Latin Grammy nomination, Rigo is now ready to carve out his own path in the music industry.
During an interview and performance on the TV show “Great Day SA,” Rigo shared his excitement about his solo project. “I’m starting my own career. I’m starting my own EP. It’ll be out later this month in August and it’s entitled ‘Rodrigo’. That’s my full name,” he said.
Rigo, who was born and raised on the south side of San Antonio, Texas, and later attended the University of Texas at Austin, spoke about his journey and the influences that shaped his music. “After that, I got to live in Monterrey, Mexico. And over there I got to learn about the culture. I got to learn about the tradition and it was just so mind-opening to me. It opened my mind to different kinds of music, different kinds of genres and I just wanted to do it all,” he explained.
The EP “Rodrigo” is a reflection of Rigo’s diverse musical influences and personal experiences. “The EP is a little mix of everything and it tells my life. I like to say it tells the story of my life and what I like. And I just wanna show that in my music. I like to say that my music is like Tex-Mex like it’s like Texas’ melting pot of music, a melting pot of artists and genres. That’s how I would like to describe my music,” Rigo added.
Fans got a taste of what’s to come when Rigo performed “Luna,” a song from his upcoming EP, during his appearance on “Great Day SA.” He is also set to perform at the Lighthouse Lounge in San Antonio on Friday, August 9, at 9 pm.
Stay tuned for the release of “Rodrigo” and witness the next chapter in Rigo Navaira’s musical journey.
