Jay Perez, the multi-Latin Grammy nominated Tejano singer, is back in the studio working on his next album, “Lo Nuestro”. This album is the much-anticipated follow-up to his Latin Grammy-nominated album “El Patron”. What sets this project apart is the level of involvement from the entire band. Every musician in the band will be 100% involved in this project, a departure from the norm where different producers and arrangers bring in other musicians for studio work.
In an exclusive interview with Tejano Nation Radio host Romeo, Jay shared, “So the name of the album is called ‘Lo Nuestro’. Doing things a little different this time around. I want to get the entire band, you know, 100% involved in this project because in the past it’s been different producers and different arrangers doing this and that and getting other musicians to do studio work for our albums. And this time around I figured if I can take my family, the band, on the road, why not have them all record the album?”
Two guest musicians, a saxophonist and a steel guitarist, who are not part of the band, will also contribute to the album. Jay Alaniz will handle the album’s production and arrangement, while Jay Perez, known as “The Voice”, will co-produce.
Jay Perez is currently recovering from a recent knee injury for a torn meniscus that requires physical therapy. Despite the setback, he remains optimistic and focused on his recovery and the upcoming album. He said, “Right now, I’m focusing more on getting better physically. And so I can get on stage and do my show. And then, of course, on top of that, I’ve got this album that we’re working on that we just started.”
The excitement for the upcoming album is palpable as Jay Alaniz, a veteran musician who played with Jimmy Gonzalez and Grupo Mazz, brings his expertise, ideas, and concepts to the project. Jay Perez added, “So far, we’re on point with everything. So it’s coming along. And what can I say, bro, it’s just a matter of time before Freddie Records puts out our new single.”
With the entire band recording the album for the first time, “Lo Nuestro” promises to be a unique and exciting project that reflects the collective effort and talent of Jay Perez and his band. Stay tuned for more updates on this groundbreaking project in Tejano music.
