Elias Arredondo, the charismatic frontman of award-winning Conjunto band The Homeboyz, faced an unexpected challenge during the Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair on Saturday, March 16, 2024. As thousands of fans gathered at Hemisfair in downtown San Antonio, Arredondo took the stage with his signature energy and passion.
In a video that quickly circulated on social media, Arredondo can be seen leaping onto a small trampoline as he’s introduced to kick off the show. However, his landing takes an unfortunate turn. He lands awkwardly, grimacing in pain as he limps toward the microphone. Despite the obvious discomfort, Arredondo doesn’t miss a beat. With determination etched on his face, he begins to sing, carefully avoiding putting too much weight on his injured right knee.
Arredondo later commented on the video on social media, “This is the part where I tore my PCL on my right knee.” His commitment to the performance and his fans is evident as he soldiers on, delivering an unforgettable show.
A PCL injury (which may also be hyperextended knee) is a partial or complete tearing or stretching of any part of the posterior cruciate ligament. The PCL is usually injured by overextending the knee (hyperextension). This can happen if you land awkwardly after jumping.
Arredondo’s dedication to his craft is unwavering. He once shared on social media, “Leave it all on stage and sing like it’s your last performance ever.” And that’s precisely what he did. Despite the pain, he kept the show going, belting out Conjunto hits and captivating the audience. An official statement from Arredondo is expected later today.
The Homeboyz have been making waves since their self-titled debut album in 2021. Their unique blend of traditional Conjunto music with modern flair has earned them accolades and a devoted fan base. Notably, they were named Best New Group at the Tejano Music Awards in 2022, and Elias Arredondo himself received the honor of Best New Male Vocalist.
The band’s success continued with New Artist of the Year recognition at Premios Tejano Mundial and the prestigious Conjunto Album of the Year award at the inaugural Guadalupe Conjunto Awards. Their sophomore album, Oddz, released in 2022, showcased their evolution and cemented their status as trailblazers in the Tejano music scene.
Despite the recent setback, The Homeboyz are in the midst of their Full Throttle Tour 2024. Fans can expect electrifying performances, even as Arredondo recovers from his knee injury. Tejano Nation will keep you updated on his progress, and we eagerly await their upcoming live concert album.
Elias Arredondo’s resilience and commitment remind us that true artists leave their hearts on the stage, no matter the obstacles. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to witnessing more of The Homeboyz’s magic in the future.
