California Congressman Robert Garcia recently paid tribute to the late Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, one of the most influential Latin artists of all time, on the House floor. This tribute was part of the congressman’s observance of Women’s History Month.
Selena, often referred to as the “Queen of Tejano Music,” has left an indelible mark on American and Latin music. Despite her untimely death at the age of 23, her music continues to inspire and unite people across borders and barriers.

“Few artists have shaped American and Latin music like Selena Quintanilla-Pérez,” Garcia said. “The queen of Tejano music — who I grew up listening to — has won the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and dozens of top awards and honors.”
Garcia also emphasized Selena’s enduring influence, stating, “She’s a symbol of unity, resilience, and Latino and Mexican-American pride.” He concluded his tribute by drawing inspiration from one of Selena’s song titles, saying, “We’ll never stop dreaming of you.”
This is not the first time Congressman Garcia has honored pop culture figures on the House floor. He has previously paid tribute to Beyonce and RuPaul, using these moments to celebrate the beginning of Women’s History Month and Pride Month, respectively.
