The City of Corpus Christi recently unveiled the completion of a remarkable project: upgraded LED lighting for the beloved Mirador De La Flor. This scenic overlook, dedicated to Selena, has long been a pilgrimage site for fans from around the world. Now, it shines even brighter, casting a luminous glow over the Corpus Christi Bay.

But that’s not all. The sound system has been meticulously repaired. Visitors can once again hear Selena’s soulful melodies as they stand on the spot hearing “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” or “Dreaming of You” against the backdrop of the bay is immeasurable.

These long-awaited upgrades were essential to preserving Selena’s memory and ensuring that future generations can connect with her music. The dedication of everyone involved, from city officials to contractors, reflects the profound impact Selena had on the world.

The Selena Memorial – Mirador De La Flor was unveiled in 1997, two years after Selena’s death. It was designed by H.W. β€œBuddy” Tatum, a local artist who also created other sculptures in Corpus Christi. The statue depicts Selena wearing a leather jacket and holding a microphone, as she often did in her concerts. The statue also includes a carved white rose on a dedication plaque.

The project is part of eight miradors revitalized along Shoreline Boulevard, spearheaded by the city, they came with a hefty price tag – over $400,000. Contractor Manuel Tunchez deserves special recognition for his exceptional work. His commitment to excellence and attention to detail brought this project to life. Tunchez’s passion for Selena’s legacy is evident in every beam of light that now illuminates the Mirador De La Flor.

The Miradors we see today were the vision of local philanthropist Dusty Durrill. Durrill’s love for Corpus Christi and admiration for Selena inspired him to create this breathtaking tribute. His dream has become a reality, and visitors can now enjoy an enhanced experience at this beloved landmark on Shoreline Boulevard.

As the sun sets over the bay, casting a warm glow on the Mirador De La Flor, Selena’s spirit dances in the air. Her legacy lives on, not just in the lyrics of her songs but in the hearts of those who visit this hallowed ground. Corpus Christi has given Selena the tribute she deserves, and her light shines brighter than ever.

So next time you find yourself in the Coastal Bend, take a stroll along Shoreline Boulevard. Let the LED lights guide your way, and listen closely – you might just hear Selena’s voice whispering through the sea breeze, reminding us all that love and music are eternal.

So happy to know that it got a much needed upgrade! Selena was one of my most memorable people growing up! I hate that my mom never taught me Spanish so I could truly understand her music. But when her series came out on Netflix it had the subtitles so I could finally read what she sang about and it was more touching that before. She really had a heart of gold and loved every one and every thing about her world especially her fans! So I’m definitely going hopefully soon to see the new repair! Great job Corpus Christi ,She’d be proud!πŸ™ŒπŸ’―β€οΈπŸ‘πŸ‘
