Paula DeAnda is a Latina pop singer who rose to fame in 2006 with her hit single “Walk Away (Remember Me)”. She was on hand at the 43rd annual Tejano Music Awards on Saturday night to perform two Tortilla Factory collaborations, and she personally serenaded us backstage with the Spanish version of her mega-hit.
DeAnda was honored to be part of the Tejano Music Awards, which celebrate the best of Tejano culture and music. She grew up listening to Tejano music and it influenced her style and sound.

She revealed that she had a special connection to Tortilla Factory, the legendary Tejano band that she performed with on stage. Her late cousin, Gilbert DeAnda, was the former lead vocalist of the band, and she sang a duet version of “Somos Novios” with him through the power of technology.
“It’s an honor for me to do that, which was very emotional for me,” Paula told Tejano Nation. “One, because he’s no longer here and has a beautiful voice and just recording the song was everything. I wish we could have done it sooner, but now we do have it, so that’s good.”
The two collaborations, including the bilingual international cumbia “Tus Ojos”, will be part of the highly-anticipated 50th-anniversary album from Tortilla Factory due out later this year.

DeAnda shared exciting news about her upcoming projects. She has an EP in the works with a single coming soon. She described her new music as “pop with a Latin twist” and said that she wanted to showcase her versatility and diversity as an artist.
“I’m super excited. You guys are going to love the music and, yeah, I just gotta get it finished,” she said.
