Tejano music legend Roberto Pulido has joined forces with his son Bobby Pulido, one of the most successful Tejano artists of the 90s, to release a new single titled “Don Luis El Tejano”. The song is a remake of the 1989 hit by Latin Breed.
The new version was produced by Bobby Pulido and multiple Grammy winner Gilbert Velasquez, who also produced the original song. It was recorded at Velasquez Music Studios in San Antonio, Texas. This is the lead single from Roberto’s highly anticipated last album, which is scheduled for release in early 2024 on the M Group music label.
Roberto Pulido, who has been performing for over 50 years and is known as “El Primo” of Tejano music, said he was excited to be back in the studio after many years. “It’s been great in the studio working with Gibby and Bobby. Can’t wait for the fans to hear the entire album,” he said.
Bobby Pulido, who rose to fame with hits like “Desvelado” and “Le Pedire”, added he was honored to be part of this project with his father. “Being able to give back to my dad after he gave me so much is the greatest honor of my life,” he said.
Gilbert Velasquez, who has worked with many Tejano stars like Selena, Emilio Navaira, and Jay Perez, said he was impressed by how Roberto and Bobby interpreted the song. “Not so long ago I produced the original version of this song with another band, never realizing how so many people would relate to the storyline….down through the years, many have asked about this fictional person..truth is it could pertain to many who have lived that life…and still to this day. What could be perhaps one of Roberto’s last recordings, he too embraced the song (having ‘been there’), and he and Bobby decided it would be a good cover….today, with a fresh new arrangement, Roberto and Bobby present their interpretation of ‘Don Luis El Tejano'” he said.
The single is available on all digital platforms and has already received positive feedback from fans and critics alike. It is a testament to the enduring legacy of Roberto Pulido and the talent of Bobby Pulido, who have both contributed to the evolution of Tejano music.
