Tejano newcomer Jenny B salutes her idol with her latest single release, “Viviras Selena,” a cover of the 1997 hit song written by Pete Astudillo for late music icon Selena.
“I am beyond excited and honored to be given the opportunity to record this song,” said Jenny B. “This song is more than a song to me but my one tribute to my idol, Selena Quintanilla-Perez. I hope you all enjoy this record as much as I did making it with the super amazing Mariano Herrera and El Dusty. As a Selena fan myself, I hope to not disappoint her fans.”
The song was originally recorded by Pete Astudillo featuring Graciela Beltran, Barrio Boyzz, Emilio Navaira, Jennifer Peña, and Bobby Pulido, and was included on the Selena movie soundtrack. It’s an ode to the Tejano music icon, who was shot and killed by her fan club president in 1995. Selena was 23.
Jenny B’s version, produced by two-time Latin Grammy winner Mariano Herrera and Latin Grammy nominee El Dusty, is a cumbia that displays the San Antonio singer’s unique sound.
