Third Annual Premios Tejano Mundial Nominations Reflects Recent Wave of Women in Tejano Music

Isabel Marie Sanchez and Destiny Navaira received most nominations, Shelly Lares will be honored Lifetime Achievement

SAN ANTONIO, TX — The third annual Premios Tejano Mundial nominations reflect the social impact of female Tejano singers in the Tejano music industry. A Tejana is nominated in 17 of the 23 categories. The most notable is Producer of the Year nominee Shelly Lares, the only Tejana nominated in the male-dominated categories of Songwriter, Producer, and Engineer of the Year. In addition, Isabel Marie leads the total number of nominations with seven, and Destiny Navaira with the second-most nominations. Both are Tejano Next generation female Tejano artists. Destiny Navaira is the daughter of Raulito Navaira, who performed alongside his late brother, Emilio Navaira.

The third annual Premios Tejano Mundial is scheduled for Sunday, March 5, 2023, with the Red Carpet at 5 p.m. and the ceremony at 7 p.m. The event will be hosted by Tori E, host of San Antonio radio station KLMO’s Women of Tejano Wednesday show and the Chicane Chisme Podcast, and Bumper Gomez, host of Bumper’s Wacky Wednesday on Facebook Live.

Artists scheduled to perform at the Premios Tejano Mundial 2023 included Monica Saldivar, Asalto, Karla Christina, Gabriella Martinez, Angelica Alcoser, Chase The Night, Destiny Navaira, Ricky Versetti featuring Savannah V, and Emilio Naviara IV and Diego Navaira of The Last Bandoleros. An after-awards event is scheduled with performances from Stefani Montiel and La Calma.

The awards show is preceded by a night of TEJANO HONORS presented by the Tejano Music Recording Academy on Saturday, March 4, 2023. The evening will begin with Tejano Honors, a tribute event with Lifetime Achievement presentations. One of the honorees is Shelly Lares, “Little Miss Dynamite.” Doors open at 7 pm and the event starts at 8 p.m. Immediately following is the official After Party with performances by Sunny Sauceda Y Todo Eso, Destiny Navaira, and Asalto.

Both events will be held at the San Antonio Shrine Auditorium at 901 N Loop 1604 in San Antonio, Texas. Tickets are available for purchase at TejanoMundial.com/tickets.

Tejano Mundial is an award presented by Tejano Music Recording Academy, a non-profit organization, to recognize achievements in the Tejano music industry each year.
