Las Vegas is a summer destination for Tejano music fans every year for the Vegas Tejano Takeover event which has provided amazing and memorable performances over the past many years. The all-star lineup for Vegas Tejano Takeover will be revealed on Monday (Feb, 27), but Tejano Nation has learned a Jimmy Gonzalez tribute performance is planned with the late Tejano icon’s son as part of the performance with his band Mike Gonzalez & The Iconiczz including special guests.
Mike Gonzalez revealed the news during a recent interview with The Jonny Ramirez Show on San Antonio radio station Tejano 95.7/103.3 FM. The tribute performance will include video and audio of Jimmy Gonzalez archived by David Chavez, CEO of INGEÑUITY, producers of the event.
Gonzalez commented, “He brought it to my attention that he had video and audio and whatnot and I was like, ‘Dave let’s put a show together for Vegas.’ He was all for it so we’re going to do that. I’ll be able to perform with Mr. Jimmy G one more time and I’m going to try and hold it together. We’re going to have some guest singers as well, so it’s going to be one big party!”
Jimmy Gonzalez is remembered as a pioneer, icon, and one of the most influential artists in Tejano music leading Grupo Mazz to multiple Grammy Awards and Latin Grammy Awards.
Mike Gonzalez & The Iconiczz released their debut album on December 31, 2022. Te Llevo En Mi Alma is the first album by the younger Gonzalez since the passing of his father in 2018.
“He was a perfectionist. He wanted to hear things the way he produced them, there was no cutting corners. It was going to be the way he did it,” said Gonzalez. “I never in my wildest dreams thought I was going to make an album without my father so this one is special to me. Hopefully y’all enjoy it and we put a lot of time into it. I mean, I love it.”
Vegas Tejano Takeover is the premier gathering of Tejano and Conjunto music fans from across the nation presented by acclaimed Latino producer INGEÑUITY. The big reveal of the artist lineup, events, and attractions for this year’s Vegas Tejano Takeover, scheduled for July 6-9, 2023, at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino, will be revealed during a Facebook Live on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. CT on the official Vegas Tejano Takeover Facebook page.
