SAN ANTONIO, TX — Tex-Flex purveyors and prestigious Premios Tejano Mundial winners, The Last Bandoleros have released their new video “Friend Zone” today.
Filmed in their hometown of San Antonio, the humorous clip sees the trio imparting “important” advice to their younger cousin.
“Most folks on this planet have been on either or both sides of the ‘friend zone’ at one point. That is, an interpersonal relationship where one may have romantic feelings and the other does not,” explains Emilio Navaira IV, The Last Bandoleros’ drummer and director of the “Friend Zone” video.
“It’s not the end of the world,” chimes in Diego Navaira, Emilio’s brother and bassist in the band.
“You accept it and both move on,” adds Jerry Fuentes, guitarist for the trio. “But our primo is kind of confused so we wrote him this song to help him understand.”
Fresh from their European tour with arena band The Boss Hoss as well as dates opening for Sting in the U.S., The Last Bandoleros have been keeping busy in 2022 by releasing two albums – “Tex Flex” and “Tex Flex Folklórico” within the span of four months, garnering rave reviews in the process and performing on ABC’s “Good Morning America” television program.
Included in the album “Tex Flex,” “Friend Zone” blends English and Spanish lyrics to create a tongue-in-cheek number simultaneously primed for cumbia dancing and Tik Tok virality.
The Last Bandoleros will take their patented “Tex Flex” sound – a blend of Tejano, pop, and rock in Spanish and English – to the stage at the prestigious Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California on April 28th, 2023, and to The Barns at Wolf Trap (outside Washington DC) on Feb. 24th, 2023. The band will also be headlining Le Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz in Los Angeles on May 5th, 2023 for a special Cinco de Mayo performance.
The group’s set list will include the songs “Maldita” – for which they won a coveted Premio Tejano Mundial award, “Vamos a Bailar” – currently a top 10 most-played track on Houston’s Tejano Hits Radio Chart – and “Friend Zone” which is sure to become an anthem in their native Texas and beyond.
“Friend Zone” was written by Emilio Navaira IV, Diego Navaira (sons of celebrated Tejano singer Emilio Navaira), Jerry Fuentes, and Martin Kierszenbaum (Sting, Madonna, Lady Gaga) who also produced the recording. “Friend Zone” is available today along with its accompanying video.
