Tejano newcomer Kary Karina teams with Tejano icon Gary Hobbs to collaborate on “Que Lastima,” a song that has a personal connection for both singers from Eagle Pass, Texas.
The track was produced by award-winning hitmaker Gabriel Zavala and was written by late veteran Tejano musician Carlos “Charlie” Castillon, the cousin of Kary Karina and keyboardist in Gary Hobbs’ band.
“He’s always there with us, all throughout this project. I felt nothing but beautiful vibes throughout it,” Kary Karina told Hobbs during the season 3 premiere of his Hangin’ With Gary Podcast. “Working in the studio with Gabriel Zavala, I also shared all of this history that we have with this song. I would just keep telling him, it just means so much to me and when we finally got the finished product I was like ‘This, this, this, yes!'”
Hobbs added, “I know exactly how you feel. When Charlie passed away, somebody dear to me said, ‘You know he loved you like a dad.’ A lot of times it did feel like that. He had so much talent.”
“Que Lastima” was previous recorded by Hobbs and he now adds his vocals to the collaboration that will be part of Kary Karina’s highly-anticipated debut album.
“That is my focus and someting that I’ve been wanting to finish for many years and I feel like it’s just an unfinished project that I don’t want to let go of,” said Kary Karina. “Every song choice that I have done so far is something that is very near and dear to me. I have a strong connection to everyone of them, that’s how I’m going about in making my selections.”
“Que Lastima” from Kary Karina featuring Gary Hobbs is available to stream or download on all digital music platforms.
