The Texas Talent Musicians Association, producers of the Tejano Music Awards, announced the launch of a new television show focused on the next generation of Tejano music. TMA TV will premiere on San Antonio television station KABB-TV Fox 29 at midnight on March 26.
The initiative for the half-hour program is geared at developing new Tejano artists and music with special emphasis on youth and launching new careers, including highlighting high school musicians.
TMA TV executive producer Elicio Leal commented, “We and this show are going to launch new careers. We’re going to launch Tejano stars and that’s what we’re here for. The number one goal is to grow the genre, start planting the seed with the youth and introduce new music.”
Award-winning music producer and Tejano artist Gabriel Zavala will be the creative director behind the show and his vision for the show is to create more attention to the story of the artists and take viewers behind the music.
“Things you don’t really see. All the hard work that goes into each and every gig, to each and every album and that’s what I’d like to do with the show,” said Zavala. “But everything I’m going to focus on is the story, the connection between what Tejano music means to its creators and both to its fans.”
Leal added, “There’s going to be quality in production. It’s going to look good. We don’t want a show that’s going to be half done. So we’re not cutting any corners, we’re taking any shortcuts we’re going to do this thing right because our industry and our Raza deserves it.”
Zavala’s daughter, Ileah, will serve as host of TMA TV. Ileah is a professional dancer and singer. She performed as a member of the San Antonio Spurs Silver Dancers and captain of the dance team for the San Antonio Talons, an Arena Football League team. She is also a backup vocalist for her mother, Tejano superstar Stefani Montiel.
Plans are to expand and distribute the Tejano music and lifestyle television show to other markets in Texas and the United States in the near future. For further details on the show visit the official website at tejanomusicawardstv.com.
