Jaime DeAnda is planning a return to the stage just two months after life-saving surgery for a health issue that required a three-day stay in the ICU last December.
The Conjunto music icon was hospitalized with a life-threatening medical emergency for an infection that required surgery. An infected tooth caused an infection of the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Famer’s tongue, jaw, and neck.
“Doctors had to surgically cut three areas of his neck and jaw to reduce swelling,” DeAnda’s manager Julian “Jullzz” Johnson told Tejano Nation. “The music industry almost lost Jaime De Anda due to the swelling of his tongue and throat and he could not breathe on his own. But the fast-acting doctors and nurses saved his life.”
De Anda required physical therapy for recovery and now less than two months later the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Famer will return to the stage this month with his Rise Of Phoenix Tour.
DeAnda’s management, Envy Road Enterainment LLC, shared the news in a statement to Tejano Nation. “It is with great pleasure to announce The Icon Jaime DeAnda is coming back with a new show called The Rise of the Phoenix show, be on the lookout.”
The statement added, “Jaime DeAnda would like to thank all his fans for the continued prayers that worked.”
DeAnda shared a quote that read, “You can’t go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are and change the ending.”
The five-time GRAMMY nominee has a private event this weekend and will debut his Rise of the Phoenix Tour in the Rio Grande Valley soon.
DeAnda’s career spans more than 40 years with most of that time spent as the frontman of Jaime Y Los Chamacos, he split with Los Chamacos in December 2018. The band had been cranking out hit songs together since 1982, releasing many successful albums and classic hits including “Yolanda,” “Mi Musica Favorita,” and many more. They received multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations and were inducted into the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame in 2011.
