My Tejano Awards hand out accolades in intimate ceremonies for the best in Tejano over past two years

The My Tejano Awards held two intimate ceremonies to announce winners for the past two years due to pandemic.

The My Tejano Awards awarded the best in Tejano over the past two years in two intimate ceremonies, one in San Antonio on Wednesday night and another in the Rio Grande Valley last month, due to the current pandemic.

“A decision to not hold the full-blown My Tejano Awards event at the Mission Event Center in Mission, Texas, due to the uptick in Covid infections at the time of our decision,” said Mando San Roman, My Tejano Awards Vice President. “This was decided with the health and safety of our Tejano artists, fans, production crew, staff, and volunteers.  We still wanted to make sure and honor the recipients and therefore decided to hold two MTA banquets, one in Mission, Texas, on Wednesday, Oct. 20th, and the other one last night Dec 15th in San Antonio. This was done in order to make it easier for artists to receive their awards.”

The My Tejano Awards, which honors Tejano artists past and present for their outstanding achievement and contribution to Tejano music, were postponed due to the pandemic in 2020 and were handed out this year with the two ceremonies hosted by Tejano music icon and Hall of Famer Shelly Lares. Multiple winners included Stevie D, who won Top Album 2021 with Estamos Unidos and Top Video 2021 with “Irremediable,” and Stefani Montiel was named Top Entertainer and Top Video 2020 for “Echame La Culpa” with La Calma.

The My Tejano Awards plan to return to a full event in 2022 at Mission Event Center with musical performances and much more. Get the latest information and news on the My Tejano Awards at the official website MyTejanoAwards.com.
