An event scheduled for August in San Antonio will celebrate Mujeres in Conjunto music. Conjunto Heritage Taller, a community-based organization dedicated to preserving and perpetuating traditional Conjunto music, announced the all-female event for August 7 at Dakota’s East Side Ice House.
The organization’s goal is to showcase female empowerment in Conjunto music, a genre historically male-dominated.
Headliner Veronique Medrano tells Tejano Nation the event’s theme and goal about female representation in the Conjunto community. “It is a male-dominated industry and to have an organization that is a non-profit that does things for the city of San Antonio that teaches children and adults about Conjunto music and the instruments itself that make up that genre; to have them say we want our first go out be a celebration of women who are keeping the torch lit for our industry means a lot,” she said.
Other performers included Conjunto accordionists Brenda Martinez, “The Squeezebox Girl” Christina Valdez, and Susan Torres with Conjunto Los Pinkys, along with Crystal N Crew and members of Conjunto Heritage Taller.
“With their talent, artistry, and determination, the 2021 Tardeada artists show us what it means to break barriers and to be a woman in Conjunto,” the organization said about the event.
Conjunto Heritage Taller has set out to bring awareness to the gender divide through their annual Tardeada and other projects. The 2021 Tardeada will showcase Mujeres, who play a critical role in closing the gender divide and opening doors for other women to pursue and strengthen their role in the Conjunto community.

Conjunto Heritage Taller Tardeada 2021 will take place at Dakota East Side Ice House, 433 S. Hackberry in San Antonio, on August 7, 2021, with a powerful lineup of Mujeres:
6:00 pm – Conjunto Heritage Taller feat. Brenda Martinez
7:00 pm – Crystal N’ Crew (Houston)
8:00 pm – Christina Valdez (San Benito)
9:00 pm – Susan Torres w/ Conjunto Los Pinkys (Austin)
10:00 pm – Veronique Medrano (Brownsville)
