Jim Luna is Tejano ROOTS Hall of Famer and is considered by many as the top Tejano concert promoter, but it all came to a crashing halt with the COVID-19 pandemic canceling all live events over the past year and the event producer tested positive for coronavirus himself in 2020.

Luna tells Tejano Nation he believes he was close to death after testing positive for COVID-19. “I caught the COVID and about two and a half weeks into COVID, I caught pneumonia and it really knocked me down,” he said. “Honestly I thought I was gonna die. To be honest with you, I thought about writing my obituary, that’s how bad it was, but with a lot of faith and a lot of prayers and a lot of friends and family that gave me a lot of support I was able to beat it and here I am, going back to what I love to do.”

Luna has produced many Tejano events since the 1980s featuring many Tejano legends including Little Joe, Emilio Navaira, and so many more with his Quartermoon Productions.

“You know, it’s not work when you love what you do,” he said. “I’ve taken it to heart. La Onda Tejana runs through my blood, that’s what I do. It’s not my only livelihood but it’s the greatest thing that I’ve ever done.”

After battling back from the coronavirus, Luna is ready to end the summer on Labor Day Weekend with another huge Tejano event, Fiesta En La Playa in Rockport, Texas.

“This year for Saturday we’re putting on one heck of a show with Joe Lopez y Mazz, Jesse Turner y Siggno, Boni Mauricio, South TX Homies, and DJ Lucky J,” said Luna. “It promises to be one of the biggest events of the year!”

The weekend festivites begin with Little Bay Labor Day music festival on Friday, Sept. 3 with ultimate 80s cover band The Spazmatics and The Band Daily. For more information call Jim Luna at 929.665.1923 or buy pre-sale tickets at FiestaRockport.myticketgenius.com.
