Family, friends, and fans will celebrate the life of late singer Ernestine Romero during a memorial tribute at the site of her mural at Infusion Cafe in Espanola, New Mexico on on July 10, 2021 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in observance of “Ernestine Romero Day” in honor of her birthday.
A “serenata” for Ernestine will begin at 5:00 p.m. featuring various New Mexico super stars and you never know who is going to show up! A balloon release will follow at 8:00 p.m. and candlelight vigil at dusk. Please bring battery operated candles.
A raffle giveaway for a beautiful electric guitar and many other giveaways, which were donated to benefit the Ernestine Romero Memorial Fund, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Ernestine Romero merchandise will also be available to purchase with proceeds going to her foundation that provides scholarships to graduating seniors in the area and donations for local organizations that work to prevent domestic and intimate partner violence.
Romero was tragically murdered by her estranged husband on July 11, 2019. The singer celebrated her 20th year in the music industry that year with the release of her 10th album Mi Tesoro. She was a multiple New Mexico Hispano Music Awards winner and was awarded a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020 and posthumous Tejano Music Award for Best Collaboration in 2020 for “Estupida,” the duet with Tejano Hall of Famer Shelly Lares.
“We appreciate you all for being supporters of Ernestine,” the Romeor family said in a statement via social media. “We know she’s loving every minute of this from Heaven. Our beautiful angel is gone but will never be forgotten.”
