Newcomer Marko MC has released his new single “Barrio”, a collaboration with D and Chelo, former members of cumbia band ATM.
“The idea for this track came about a few years back,” Marko MC told Tejano Nation. “D and I have always worked well together. One day he was putting all these elements together for this song and I wanted to do something for my culture and where I came from.”
“Considering everything going on in the world we knew it was time to drop Barrio,” he added. “The song itself is the story of ones love for what made them, and a reminder to remember where you come from.”
The track was produced by D, which also features vocals from himself and Chelo.
“Barrio” was released to all digital music platforms on May 24 and features an original version with explicit lyrics, a remix featuring D and Chelo and radio edit.
“I wanted to saturate this song in Chicano/Tejano culture and the gentlemen in A.T.M. had the grit and edge I needed to send a message that I hope resonates throughout the entire Latino nation,” Marko MC added. “Orgullo, passion y la mas importante, LIBERTAD para todos (Pride, passion and most important, FREEDOM for all).”
Marko MC is a former vocalist for cumbia band Kingz 1 (K1) and helped composed songs on the “Resurrection” album, released in 2013.
