Tejano music legend Pete Garza, the original bass player for Latin Breed, passed away Saturday morning (Sept. 16). He was 67.

He was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer which spread to his lungs, lymph nodes, stomach, chest and kidney, according to his family.

His son Pete Garza, Jr. shared news of his father’s passing on Facebook, “My father Pete Ramos Garza has gone to be with the Lord. He passed at 4:24 am this morning. Please continue to pray for us during this difficult time. Let’s rejoice knowing that my pops is now in eternity with Jesus!”

The musician has been a part of many bands over his legendary career, including Sunny and the Sunliners, The Latin Breed, Roger Velasquez and the Latin Legends and has worked on many classic Tejano and Chicano hits with Laura Canales, Little Joe and more.

Latin Breed posted about Garza’s passing on the band’s Facebook page, “Pete Garza has gone home to be with the Lord. Our hearts may be heavy, yet we celebrate his legendary life. Musically and personally, Pete touched us with his love in so many ways. Pete, the battle is over. Walk in glory with the Lord. Until we meet again… we have no doubt you are with us at every step of the way to through the next chapter of the brotherhood. ¡Con todo el corazón… te amamos!”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral arrangements and any other expenses or financial needs.

“My father did not have any preparations for something as tragic as this,” his son wrote on the GoFundMe page. “We are asking all of his friends, family, musicianship brothers to band together and bless this amazing man.”

Tejano Nation will have more details on funeral arrangement as they become available.
