Rising Tejano singer Krisse G lost her grandparents and four young family members in the catastrophic flooding in Houston, Texas on Sunday.
The family of six died after drowning in a white van Sunday afternoon while trying to escape the floods of Hurricane Harvey, KHOU-TV reports.
The victims are Krisse G’s grandfather Manuel Saldivar, 84, grandmother Belia Saldivar, 81, along with cousins Daisy Saldivar, 6, Xavier Saldivar, 8, Dominique Saldivar, 14, Devy Saldivar, 16.
The driver – the children’s great-uncle – managed to escape. He told everyone to get out of the van using the back door, but the van quickly sank.
Witnesses said first responders were in the area, but they were too late to conduct a rescue operation.
Authorities confirm they took an official report on the incident, but the vehicle and bodies have not been recovered at this time. Family members confirmed the story to KHOU-TV.
Krisse G is planning to release a new single, dedicated to her family members.
“My single is going to be very emotional to record, especially with all of this going on,” Krisse G told Tejano Nation. “It is more on the religious side. It’s titled ‘Un Lugar Celestial’. ”
The singer and her family are still processing the devastating news.
“As far as coping it will just take time, she said. “I just want to remember them all being happy and smiling. A lot of people are asking me if there is anything I can do just let me know. The one thing I ask is for everyone to donate what they can to the flood victims. My heart goes out to them all.”
