The South Texas Conjunto Association handed out accolades to some of the year’s best Conjunto musicians at the 19th Annual Conjunto of the Year Awards in Elsa, Texas on July 16.
The ceremony was held at the Full Court Dance Hall with Santiago Garza Y La Naturaleza winning Conjunto of the Year and Ruben De La Cruz winning Single Of The Year for “Como Tu Hombre”. Album of the Year was awarded to Roger Arocha for Canciones Querida and Teresa Villareal won Composer of the Year.
Conjunto legends Nick Villarreal, Los Diamantes De Epifanio Y Cruz, Juan Jose Guadiana of JJ Y Los Zentellaz, Manuel Vargas, Ruben Cadena and Ricardo Guzman Jr. received Lifetime Achievement awards.
Awards for the year’s top musicians were also handed out, most notably, Conjunto legend Boni Mauricio for Accordion Player of the Year and Ruben Garza for Bajo Player of the Year and more.
Performances for the night included Los RV Boyz, Ruben Garza Y La Nueva Era, Conjunto Baraja De Oro and many more.
