Tejano music legend Jessy Serrata will have surgery next week after recently receiving a diagnosis of kidney cancer.
“Surgery to remove his right kidney was delayed due to concerns with his heart,” according to sources close to the family. “Moments ago, the surgeon came in to perform pre-surgery tests and announced that his heart is now strong enough for the surgery and the procedure is scheduled to take place early next week.”
The 63-year-old singer was admitted into the hospital on April 24, where tests confirmed that Serrata has stage 3 kidney cancer.
Serrata, also known as “Mr. Iron Throat,” has appeared on over 17 albums and was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2004 for his album Better Than Ever.
