Becky Lee Meza was thrust into fame portraying a young Selena Quintanilla in the 1997 biopic Selena, and the former actress, now known as Becky Burden, updated fans on her recent life since the movie via a video blog.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the iconic movie based on the life of the late Queen of Tejano music, Selena.
What has Burden been up to since the movie’s release?
“After I did the movie, I came home and life was not peachy,” she said. “I had a lot of people that hated me, children and adult. Death threats, you name it. It was not cool. It was really, really hard to come back and be normal, I never was normal.”
The aspiring young actress, who was picked out of 22,000 other actresses during a casting call for Selena, never continued into the movie business.
“I truly believe God had other plans for my life,” she said. “I feel that I was supposed to experience the filming of the movie and experience the short-lived fame, to humble me and just show me a lot of things that I probably  wouldn’t have learned, had it not been for the movie.”
Burden, who is now married with four children, began the video blog in August 2016 so that people could get to know her better. Burden and her husband reside near Harlingen, Texas, and recently rededicated their lives to Christ.
“I want people to get to know me, the real me,” she said. “I want to share my testimony and maybe help others find their way through Christ.”
