Music legends Little Joe Y La Familia will record a live album at the historic Plaza Theatre in El Paso, Texas on Saturday, March 11, 2017.
“This time around we will be doing a very special tribute to the master of la canción Mexicana, José Alfredo Jimenez,” Torres says in the blog. “Arguably the most prolific composer in Mexican history, it is almost IMPOSSIBLE for you not to recognize at least ONE of his many masterpieces….especially if you are a Little Joe fan!”
Little Joe has recorded, and made many hits of Jimenez’s songs throughout his legendary career with The Latinaires and La Familia.
“We have gone way back in to the vault to pull out some old classics that Joe hasn’t played in 30+ years! For the die hard Little Joe fans, this album is going to bring back some awesome memories,” said Torres. “For the newer fans, it is going to introduce you to some more great Chicano music from Little Joe’s massive recording career.”
The show will also feature opening band Raulito Navaira Y Remedio, winners of all three Best New Artist categories at the 2016 Tejano Music Awards. The band won Best New Group, as well as Best New Female for vocalist Destiny Navaira and Best New Male for Rigo Navaira at the 36th annual Tejano Music Awards in November.
Legendary master of the accordion Flaco Jimenez will also be sharing the stage for this historic night.
“I am so excited about this performance and recording,” said Torres. “We have been rehearsing for the last month, getting a great show ready for everyone.”
Tickets for the live album recording are still available and can be purchased here.
A release date for the upcoming live album hasn’t been announced, but it’s the follow-up to Little Joe Y La Familia’s recently released studio album San Antonio, available online at LittleJoeYLaFamilia.com.
