The 36th annual Tejano Music Awards will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as the awards show’s charity of choice for 2016-2017.
“This is the first year that we have chosen to recognize a charity for our annual Tejano Music Awards and the Texas Talent Musicians Association,” according to a press release on Wednesday. “We couldn’t think of a better organization that offers hope, compassion and love to the children that lives are threatened by cancer and other life threatening diseases.”
The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, founded in 1962 by television star Danny Thomas, is a pediatric treatment and research facility focused on children’s catastrophic diseases.
“St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands of more children,” according to the press release. “Families never receive a bill from any of St. Jude medical treatments, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.”
Celebrating 36 years of being the major and longest running event recognizing Tejano music, this year’s show will feature a special tribute to the “King of Tejano Music” Emilio Navaira.
San Antonio’s Tobin Center for the Performing Arts will be the stage for the Tejano music’s biggest night, where fans can expect a spectacular show that promises many surprises, exciting musical collaborations, and the recognition of Tejano’s best and brightest stars.
