The show featured surprise guest performances, an awards presentation and an appearance by Elida’s parents during a historic and emotional night for the Tejano superstar.
Elida accepted three Tejano Music Awards from 2015 with her parents on hand to witness the record breaking 25th, 26th and 27th TMAs for Elida Y Avante. The awards for Female Entertainer Of The Year, Tejano Album Of The Year for Al Fin Completa, and Vocal Duo Of The Year for “Siempre Seras Para Mi” with Jay Perez, were presented by Far West’s Rudy Lopez.
“I want to thank the Tejano Music Awards, I want to thank Felix (Mendoza), Rudy (Lopez), everyone that made this possible,” Elida told to a packed venue. “I can not take the credit for all these awards, my band and my husband Lalo is big, big reason behind all these award. Let me just say it takes teamwork, it takes great chemistry, it takes everything, it takes having a good attitude, most importantly, you just have to have a good attitude, stay positive and thank you so much this.”
The night also featured a performance from fellow Tejano Hall of Famer Shelly Lares and a duet with 2015 Tejano Music Awards Best New Female Artist nominee Di Marie. Rising Tejano bands Grupo Vidal and Xplosion opened the night for Tejano fans in attendance.
Elida Y Avante, formed in 1992, released their first album, Atrevete, in 1994, which spawned the hit “Luna Llena.” The Rio Grande Valley-based band won their first Tejano Music Award in 1995 for Rising Group Of The Year and Elida was awarded Rising Female Vocalist Of The Year.
