Selena Wax Figure Unveiled at Madame Tussauds Hollywood [PHOTOS]

Selena fans petitioned for it and the day finally arrived to unveil the wax figure immortalizing Selena Quintanilla in a ceremony at Madame Tussauds Museum in Hollywood on Tuesday night (August 30).

The Quintanilla family were on hand for the reveal of the wax figure, valued at $350,000, recreating the look from Selena’s 1993 concert in Corpus Christi, Texas, that was captured for the Selena Live! album. The album that garnered the late singer a Grammy Award.

“We truly believe that if Selena was here, she would be jumping around this thing, super ecstatic and taking a million pictures next to herself and thanking everyone and thanking her fans because at the end of the day, 21 years later, it’s because of her fans that this is here, why we’re here,” said Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga, Selena’s sister.

A team of sculptors and artists researched Selena’s wardrobe to make the figure authentic. They traveled to the Selena Museum in Corpus Christi and worked with her family to get her pose, expression and hair right, officials said in a news release.

“At Madame Tussauds, our figures represent icons who have made a significant impact on our culture,” said Colin Thomas, the museum’s general manager. “That perfectly describes Selena. Her influence has transcended generations and her passionate fans continue to be inspired by her to his day. We recognize this and in response, we are proud to join her fans in celebrating her legacy by immortalizing her.”

Selena, known as the Queen of Tejano music, was shot and killed by the manager of her clothing boutique in 1995. She was 23.
