Jennifer Degollado is usually seen playing the accordion for her family’s popular cumbia band Grupo Control, but the singer released her first solo single with a video on Thursday.

“El Crucifijo de Piedra” is a mariachi track that showcases the singer’s vocal talents and she dedicated its release to a former teacher.

“My first mariachi song is dedicated to my teacher Mr. Bazaldua, R.I.P., better known as Mr B.,” Degollado posted in Spanish on her Facebook page on Thursday. “Mr. B had a incredible patience to teach me. I will never forget his advice, he is part of my person. Thank you for all the dedication and time you gave me. Thank you Mr. B for believing in me, for instilling in me a desire and a great love for mariachi music. Never forget!! This is going to heaven for you. Maestro!”

Degollado posted the beautiful visual for “El Crucifijo de Piedra” featuring Mariachi Xochipilli on Facebook first for her fans and many followers.

“I thank you with all my heart for the support you give me,” she posted in Spanish. “This is for you, thank you for believing in me it’s my first mariachi song…I hope you like it.”

The video was filmed at Hacienda Paraiso in Weslaco on August 7 in over 100 degree Texas heat.

It was only a matter of time before the talented Degollado went off on her own, but the singer said she still plans to remain a part of Grupo Control with some solo projects like this in the future.
