Stampede kicked off the 13th Annual Tejano Music National Convention on Friday, August 5 in Las Vegas. The band from Ft. Worth, Texas shared the stage with La Santa Cecilia, Flaco Jimenez, Max Baca, Jimmy Gonzalez Y Grupo Mazz, Raulito Navaira and Remedio.
Tejano Nation contributor Fanny Gurl, from KPYT 100.3 fm in Tucson, Arizona, caught up the the band for an impromptu interview during the event.
Stampede consists of six band members: Rick Torres on lead vocals, J.C. Rios on lead guitar, Miguel Ortega on keyboards, Richard Cantu on accordion, Jeremy Ramos on the drums, and Ray Sifuentes on the bass.
In 2002, Stampede was awarded “Rising Star of the Year” at the Tejano Music Awards.
The band has an energy level that compares to a “stampede”. Their live performances show their versatility by combining covers, with cumbia and rancheras originals.
Grupo Stampede is currently on the industry ballot for the 2016 Tejano Music Awards in the following categories:
